Évora Resort
Évora, Portugal
2011–2006
The university city of Evora is the capital of the Alentejo region and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Evora Resort is a master plan for a property of 900 ha, known as Sousa da Sé, 6 km from the city centre and less than 1 km from the Lisbon-Madrid highway exit. The master plan includes a 60 ha water basin with a 36-hole golf course. There will be a 40 ha vineyard at the centre of the project, which comprises two hotels, a conference centre, a civic centre, sports facilities, apartments and villas. Provision has been made for the agricultural and farming activities to continue.
The clusters of villas and apartments form a series of nucleuses, which reflect the tradition of the local farm settlements known as “montes”, and leading to the community creation of small neighbourhoods where families can connect on a day-to-day basis.
More than a conventional tourism resort, the project aims to become a part of the expansion of the city of Evora, which is currently under pressure from lack of housing and space for development. The objective is to create a balance between tourism, the local inhabitants and the agro-farming business.
